Selecting a Program of Study: How Certain Are Community College Students About Their Choice and Does It Change?
This report from Community College Research Center examines how community college students choose their program of study, highlighting the experiences of 42 students enrolled in one of four community colleges in California, Maryland, Ohio, and Texas. Findings show that about half of students change programs within two years, even when they begin confident in their choice. The report provides information on why these shifts occur and identifies opportunities for colleges to strengthen advising, onboarding, and early academic guidance.
