Exploring Corequisite Reform in Louisiana: Year 1 Insights and What’s Next
In this essay, Community College Research Center shares what they’ve learned in Year 1 of a three-year study of colleges in the Louisiana Community and Technical College System as they design and deliver a new corequisite model. In response to growing evidence supporting corequisite developmental education, a statewide policy was adopted that eliminated most traditional remediation, making Louisiana one of the first states to fully scale this model across all public colleges. Year 1 of the study focused on how colleges implemented corequisites, with initial research reflecting that placement practices still need refinement, but that students and faculty largely support this reform.
