Bridging the Divide
This report explores how colleges can better connect their teaching and learning centers with postsecondary education in prison programs. While thousands of incarcerated learners take college courses through these programs, they often lack access to the academic support, tutoring, and faculty development resources available to campus-based students. The report includes a landscape scan of programs, analysis of barriers and promising practices, and case studies highlighting the impact of stronger collaboration. Drawing on interviews, surveys, and focus groups, it makes a compelling call for colleges to recognize incarcerated learners as full members of the campus community and shows how this recognition can transform outcomes for students, faculty, and institutions alike.
