New role as of October 15, 2018
Madison, Wis.—Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation & Affiliates is pleased to announce and welcome Rebecca Villarreal as Director of Education Grantmaking in its Community Investments Division, effective October 15, 2018. Rebecca will lead a team of experienced program officers and grant administrators in support of Great Lakes’ philanthropic mission of helping traditionally underserved students overcome the academic, financial and social obstacles that too often derail a postsecondary education.
Rebecca arrives at Great Lakes from The Kresge Foundation where she has served as an Education Program Officer for the past three years. Previously, she held positions at the Association of Public & Land-Grant Universities and the University of Maryland, College Park.
“I’m excited to have Rebecca in this leadership role,” said Amy Kerwin, Vice President and head of Community Investments at Great Lakes. “She is well-known and respected as a relationship builder and collaborator among higher education funders, researchers and practitioners, and her commitment to promoting student success through proven and evidence-based practices perfectly aligns with our priorities at Great Lakes. What’s more, as a first-generation college graduate herself I can’t think of a better advocate for the students we serve.”
Rebecca holds a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy, both in Education Policy Leadership, from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri, Columbia.
